15 Ways To Use Gilded Leafing On Your Projects

Have you heard about Stampin Up’s new Gilded Leafing, and if so, are you just as excited as I am about it? I’ve been doing a lot of playing with it, and today I’ll show you several different ways to use this product on your projects. My mind is blown by the amount of projects I’ve created with it already. If you aren’t familiar with gilded leafing yet, read below to for an introduction to this amazing new product.

How To Use Gilded Leafing

To use gilded leafing, start by applying adhesive to your card or other paper project. You’ll need the exposed sticky area to cling to the gold pieces. Next, apply leafing by either rubbing it onto the card or dipping the project into a container of leafing.

Once applied, rub off excess leafing with your fingers and then a soft brush, like a toothbrush. To finish, tap the back of the project over a trash can to eliminate smaller pieces of leafing still clinging to your project. Click here to watch a video of this process.

15 Ways To Use Gilded Leafing

To help spark your creativity and imagination, I’ve come up with 15 different ways to use Stampin Up’s Gilded Leafing. Check them out below.

1. Multi-Purpose Glue

Apply multi-purpose glue to the areas you want to highlight and accent with gilded leafing.

Let glue dry, then apply gilded leafing over top.

2. Glue Dots

Apply dots to your paper project and rub leafing over top. This leaves you with perfectly round specks of gold on your cards.

3. Tear & Tape Adhesive

Use Tear & Tape adhesive to make fun strips on your projects. Once strips have been applied, remove the paper backing from them and apply the gilded leafing.

4. & 5. Punches & Adhesive Sheets

Punch out designs from the adhesive sheet to create a sticker. Rub leafing over top to turn a punched out image into a gilded work of art!

6. & 7. Foam Adhesive Sheets & Die Cuts

For a 3D look, die cut words or images from our foam adhesive sheets. Apply leafing for an added pop to your card.

8. & 9. Full Application & Embossing Folder

Here, I applied gilded leafing to an entire piece of cardstock using a silicone craft sheet, sponge and multi-purpose glue. I sponged glue over the entire surface, let it dry, then applied the gilded leafing. Once gilded, emboss with an embossing folder of your choice.

10. Mask

This project also uses a silicone craft sheet, sponge and multi-purpose glue. In addition to those tools, I also used a mask to create a pattern for the background of this card. First, tape the mask to a piece of cardstock. Then, sponge multi-purpose glue over the top. Let it dry, then apply leafing product.

11. Stamped Image

To create this technique, reach for a stamp of your choice, Versamark ink, Heat & Stick powder and a heat tool. Stamp the image of your choice onto cardstock with Versamark ink. Apply Heat & Stick powder and remove the excess. Heat with the heat tool. Once melted, rub leafing over the area.

12. Shaker Card

Anytime I have something pretty with small pieces, I have to make a shaker card with them inside. Create a shaker card by filling the inside with a handful of gilded leaf product.

13. Ribbon Application

Did you know you can gild more than just paper and cardstock? Yep, apply a little bit of multi-purpose glue to ribbon to create a beautiful gilded piece.

14. Embellishment Application

Similar to the ribbon technique above, you can add leafing to embellishments too such as the wooden branch I used it on below. Apply multi-purpose glue, let dry and rub leafing over top. Viola!

15. Other 3D Objects

There are so many ways to use gilded leafing other than paper projects. You could try a picture frame, other decorations in your house, or even jewelry!

The Sky’s The Limit with Gilded Leafing

Seriously though, the sky IS the limit when it comes to this stuff. I absolutely love it. It can be applied to almost anything and leaves a beautiful gold finish behind. Where else could you use it?
