Back in October I was very lucky to visit the Stampin’ Up! home office during my Rising Star trip. If you’re getting tired of hearing about my trip, I promise I’ll stop talking about it someday! But for now, I want to share all of the fantastic things I learned while I was there! I’m finally getting around to sharing pictures from our tour of the facility, so here they are!
Here is the home office. Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s located on the outskirts of Salt Lake City in Riverton, Utah.
When we first arrived at the home office, we were whisked away to the distribution center for a tour of it. Here are a few fun facts about the distribution center:
- It is 175,000 square feet.
- They process an average of 3,000 orders and 100,000 items each day.
- During heavy ordering times, they extend their hours in order to get orders shipped quickly. In addition, employees from other areas of the office cover the pick line during lunchtime to keep it running all day. It’s possible that the CEO or Vice President helped pull items for your order!
- The entire building was dug 15 feet deep into the ground, because founder and CEO Shelli Gardner didn’t want the building to be an eyesore to the area. If you take another glance at the photo above, I’m pretty sure she was successful. It’s gorgeous! If you look closely, the distribution center is the shorter part of the building that you can see on the right side.
- There are many features to make the environment more comfortable for employeess such as skylights to brighten up the space.
Here are a few pictures. There are the boxes being folded and sent on to be filled up!
I had the chance to help with the pick line. I was so excitied! I felt so useful! I mean, those people really needed and wanted their orders and I got to help! If you want to know how I knew which items to pick, check out this earlier post. Oh, and if you received an order around the end of October that was wrong, I didn’t do it!
I packed those boxes!
When the boxes reach the end of the line, they need some packing material. Here is the bubble wrap machine!
At the end of the line, the boxes are weighed to make sure they weigh what they should based on the items that are supposed to be inside. If they are off, they are pulled aside and checked. Genius!
That was it for our tour of the distribution center. Next we visited the call center. These are the wonderful folks that you and I speak with anytime we have a problem with an order or another issue. If you ever need to call support, the phone number is 1-800-STAMPUP. Now, I’m not saying that you should make up a reason to call them, but IF the opportunity ever presents itself, you should call them! They are SO nice. I knew this before my trip because I have called many times. What I learned during my trip is that EVERYONE in the entire office is just as nice. Seriously, everyone. Even while sharing meals with various members of the corporate team, in a situation where I would normally be very nervous, I was as comfortable as if I was eating with a friend. They’re just nice, normal people. It seems like quite a place to work. If I ever decide to change states, I know where I’m going and applying for a job!
On with the tour. This was a product room that the call center employees have access to. If they receive a question about a product they’re unfamiliar with, they can come here to see it firsthand.
I decided that I need sample boards in my workshop like they have!
I’ll say right now, I envy these ladies. They get paid everyday to wear jeans (if they so choose) and craft. They are the concept artists who make the samples you see in catalogs and other publications. Next time they’re hiring, sign me up!
As we were touring the building, I happened to glance out the window and look what I saw. I’m used to looking out the window at cornfields (which I do love), but I think I could get used to seeing mountains!
Isn’t this hallway pretty? I love the archways.
This is the atrium that is right inside the main entrance. The lower area has tables where employees can eat their lunch.
The Legacy Room tells the history of the company.
It also has lovely little nooks showing how our products can be used for home decorating.
There are reminders throughout the office of what the employees are there to do. These are large images on walls. I thought they were neat.
There were also beautiful displays in gorgeous furniture pieces throughout the office. I want!
Before we left the office on the last day, we had to get our picture by the front door. These are the six of us who received the Rising Star award this year.
And we couldn’t leave without a picture by the infamous rock!
I hope you enjoyed the tour! It’s a beautiful facility filled with wonderful people and I enjoyed it more than I can say. If you would like to read more about my trip, click here.
