Stampin Up Forever & Always Watercolor Card & Framed Art

11 Feb

Welcome to the February OSAT Blog Hop! I’m excited about this month’s theme – Where The Wild Things Grow. When you visit the blogs of the other crafters, you’ll see projects loaded with flowers and plants. Plants are my favorite, so I was pumped for this! I’ve created a card and framed art piece using the Stampin Up Forever & Always bundle and I’m excited to share it with you.

OSAT Blog Hop Cardmaking Ideas and Tutorials

Here’s a quick preview of what I created…keep scrolling to see the entire project!

Stampin Up Forever & Always Card And Framed Art

Here you can see my card and framed art. I love the end result of these projects. I combined several techniques to achieve the look, and I’ll show them in my video tutorial and also explain briefly below.

Project Tutorial Video

To watch along and see exactly how to make the card project, take a look at my tutorial video below.

Stampin Up Forever & Always Bundle

Let’s look at the Stampin Up Forever & Always product bundle shown below. This set has the most beautiful large stamps and dies for the words “Love” and “Always.” The die set not only includes the words themselves, but also a shadow image to place behind the words. On my projects, you can see the shadow image which I cut out with black cardstock. This set is wonderful for Valentine’s Day, wedding, anniversaries, and thinking of you cards.

Let me give you some of the many ways you can pair the stamps in this set to create meaningful greetings:

  • Love You
  • Always With You
  • Love You With My Whole Heart
  • With You Always
  • Love You Forever & Always
  • Forever & Always
  • Always Together
  • Love You So Very Much
  • With Love
  • Love You More

I’m sure there are more options, but those are the ones I came up with quickly. I guess I should also mention the flowers in the set. They are very pretty and delicate, and can be colored in many different ways or used in simple black and white.

Techniques Galore

I used quite a few techniques and special products on this project. They include watercoloring, spritzing, splattering, using water painters, masking, die cutting using foam adhesive sheets, heat embossing, and adding shimmer with Wink of Stella. If you’re curious what any of these are, you’ll definitely want to watch along with my project video above.

Next let’s talk about the materials you’ll need to create this project.

Forever & Always Card Project Materials List

You’ll need the following materials:

  • Stampin Up Forever & Always Bundle
  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper measuring 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • Black card base measuring 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ plus extra for die cuts
  • Love You Always Foil Sheets
  • Lace Trim
  • Inks: Versamark, Melon Mambo, Magenta Madness, Poppy Parade, Mango Melody, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Memento Black
  • Water Painters
  • Spritzers
  • White Embossing Powder
  • Heat Tool
  • Wink Of Stella
  • Matte Black Dots
  • Post It Notes or other paper for masking
  • Foam Adhesive Sheets (optional)
  • Adhesives

A complete list of materials along with ordering links is included at the bottom of this post. Now, before we get to the written instructions, I better address the following.

Watercoloring With Memento Ink???

I’ll be honest, when I started using Memento ink, it was mainly because I forgot I should be using StazOn. StazOn is your best bet for watercoloring because it doesn’t bleed, but I actually used Memento on this project. If you look closely, you may be able to see that the black ink bled slightly. This is more noticeable on my framed art piece, and probably more visible in the tutorial video. At first I thought I had ruined my project, and then I decided I liked the casual appearance of the fading and bleeding. If you don’t want the black ink to bleed, use StazOn. If you like the look of my project, go ahead and use Memento but be careful how much water you add. The more water used, the more bleeding will occur.

Written Instructions For Stampin Up Forever & Always Card

Let’s talk about how to make these projects!

  1. Prepare die cuts.
  2. Prepare small greeting by embossing it with white embossing powder onto black cardstock.
  3. Create masks for the flowers using Post It Notes.
  4. Stamp large flowers using black ink. I used the Stamparatus and stamped multiple times to get a good, dark image.
  5. Mask over the large flowers and stamp the small flowers.
  6. Mask over small flowers and add leaves and buds.
  7. Tape project to your work surface.
  8. Spritz water several times over the paper.
  9. Use water painters to color the flowers and leaves.
  10. Add splatters using water painters.
  11. Set aside to dry or use heat tool to speed the process.
  12. Attach watercolor paper to the front of your card base with strong adhesive.
  13. Add lace, greetings, and black dots.
  14. Use Wink of Stella to add shimmer to flowers.

You created a beautiful watercolor card. I especially how soft spoken you are and described your technique. I haven’t water colored in ages but you have peaked my interest. Shut in with COVID gives me a good opportunity. Thank you for sharing your talent!
