Get Your Slimline Cards To Lay FLAT!

5 Feb

It’s the end of card making tricks week, and today I want to share how to get slimline cards to lay FLAT once and for all! Last week I shared about slimline cards all week long, and while I was preparing for these projects, I realized how difficult it is to get a slimline card to lay flat. How had I never noticed this before? (eyeroll at myself) Anyway…once I discovered how to get them to lay flat I figured I should share what I learned, since I’m probably not the only one who has had this difficulty. Let me share!

How To Get Card Bases To Lay Flat

If you’re struggling with getting your regular card bases to lay flat, then I encourage you to take a look at this post where I talk about A2 size cards, which are 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. They’re much easier to get to lay flat than slimline cards.

Now for slimline cards. Watch along here for the full explanation, or keep reading for more details.

Step By Step

1. Score the card base.

2. Do not flip the paper over. You want the ‘bump’ from the score line on the bottom side and the ‘valley’ on the top side.

3. Fold paper in half, and use bone folder to firmly burnish the paper.

4. Flip the card over and repeat step 3.

5. Open up the card and fold the opposite way.

6. Gently burnish one side.

7. Flip the card and gently burnish the other side.

You have to be careful during steps 6 and 7 not to degrade the paper, so be gentle.

At this point, your card should lay flat! If not, watch along with the video and practice a few more times 🙂
