Cardinal and Glimmering Trees Card

7 Sep
I feel like our holiday products have given me an amazing array of potential for making projects this season. I have really been getting into trying new techniques and pairing them with these new products. That’s how today’s project came about and I’m really happy with how this cardinal and glimmering trees card turned out!
I used the Woodland embossing folder to created the background. I had in mind that the trees would look really cool covered in glitter, so I tried it out and got that much done. Then I looked at it and thought, “Now what?” For the next few days, I continued looking at it and I kept thinking the same thing, “Now what?” I mentioned it when a few of my customers were here for an event and one of them said it needed a bird. Well of course! Our Joyful Season stamp set has the perfect bird!

Because I used a few different techniques on this card, I put together a video tutorial showing how I made it.

To create the background, I embossed it using the Woodland embossing folder, sponged over the trees with Versamark ink, sprinkled Iridescent Ice embossing powder over the top, removed excess powder with a paintbrush and then heat set it. If you’re a visual learner, the video will definitely help.
For the cardinal, I stamped it and the branch onto vellum from our Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum Stack. I colored in the branch and berries using Stampin’ Write Markers. I used the white Uni-Ball gel pen to color the same areas on the back of the vellum to help the color stand out more. I stamped another cardinal onto whisper white cardstock, colored it in and cut it out. Then I placed that one on top of the vellum using dimensionals.

What type of white ink did you use for the sentiment?

I embossed it using Versamark ink and white embossing powder. We did this at a class and a few people used the white craft ink instead and it didn’t turn out quite as well.
