These 10 stamping techniques to use with leaves are perfect for beautiful fall cards. Stained glass, sponging, spritzing, blends markers, a keyhole card, and more. Try them today!

Below I will walk you through each technique, but first I want to share the leaf products I’ll be using.

Featured Stamps And Bundles

I used five leaf stamp sets along with some coordinating dies and punches today. They are:

Now, let’s talk about these fun stamping techniques to use with leaves!

Baby Wipe Ink Pad

For this technique, you’ll need to fold a baby wipe in half or fourths. Then use ink refill bottles to add drops of various colors of ink until you have an area at least the size of your stamp fully inked. I used the following colors: Mango Melody, Cajun Craze, Cherry Cobbler, and Pumpkin Pie. Use the baby wipe to ink your stamp instead of a regular ink pad.

Die Cut Stencils For Sponging (or Spritzing)

First, die cut a leaf from a piece of window sheet. Then, use the negative piece as a stencil to sponge onto your project. I used Crumb Cake ink, but you can use any color or mix up a few.

Keyhole Card

For this card, I first stamped the leaf onto the front of the card. Next, I die cut the leaf out. I colored it, then nested it back inside of the cut hole and glued it to the inside of the card. When you open the card, it stays attached to the inside.

Sponging Over Heat Embossing

Begin this technique by heat embossing leaves onto a piece of cardstock. Next, choose some pretty colors to sponge over the top.

Joseph’s Coat

The Joseph’s Coat technique is similar to the last one, but you start by sponging various colors onto plain white cardstock. When the ink is dry, stamp leaves over the top using Versamark ink, and use clear embossing powder and a heat tool to create the clear-embossed leaves. Next, sponge dark ink over the top of the entire area. The embossed areas resist the ink and allow the other colors to show through, while the areas between the leaves soak in the dark color. Gorgeous!

Blends Alcohol Markers

Coloring leaves with our blends alcohol markers is the perfect way to achieve gorgeous leaves with deep, rich tones.

Stained Glass

For this technique, stamp a leaf onto a piece of window sheet using StazOn ink. Once dry, flip the window sheet over, and color on the opposite side with Blends markers.

Water Painters

I used watercolor paper for this technique, but you could use regular cardstock as well. Add color to the leaves with water painters!

Spritz The Stamp

For this technique, ink your stamp and lay it upside down on your work surface. Spritz the stamp with water 1-3 times, then stamp onto your project. This gives a nice blurred effect.

Spritz The Card

This technique is similar to the last one, but you spritz onto the cardstock first, then ink the stamp and stamp on the paper. This allows the color to bleed outward from the stamped image.
