Stampin Up Shadowed Shapes & A Fun Background Technique

17 Apr

I think it’s time for a Blends marker tutorial, don’t you? I love coloring with these amazing alcohol markers, and I thought it would be fun to share a simple idea for creating card backgrounds with them. The Stampin Up Shadowed Shapes stamp set seemed perfect to use for this. This set is retiring very soon. Let’s look at what I made.

Stampin Up Shadowed Shapes

This nice stamp set includes what I’m calling silhouette type images. These would be lovely stamped in a single color on a card front, or as you can see I’m sharing a different idea for using them with Blends markers. As I mentioned above, this stamp set is retiring as is now on our Last Chance List of products. Take a look using this link.

Alcohol Marker Background Technique Video

Watch along here for more info about this technique, and stick around until the end when I’m sharing a great idea for reducing stress and anxiety quickly and easily!

Intro To Alcohol Markers

If you’re new to using alcohol markers, I encourage you to take a look here where I go back to the basics and explain everything you need to know to get started with these markers!

Shadowed Shapes Card Samples

The technique I used to make these cards is very simple. I just created streaks across the background in varying shades of the same color. I like to start with my lightest color, and continue adding darker colors, then blend them together again with the lighter markers. You can see exactly how I do this in my video.

For all of these cards, I stamped the images with Memento black ink. Below I’ll share the color of markers I used to blend the backgrounds.

For this card I used Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, and Pretty Peacock Blends Markers.

On this one I used Lemon Lolly, Daffodil Delight and Wild Wheat, along with Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce for the berries.
