I was excited to receive my new Stampin Up Magnetic Cutting Plate this past week, and I had to try it out as soon as it arrived. I’m still loving using my new Stampin Cut and Emboss Machine, and the magnetic cutting plate is a really nice accessory to use with it. Let’s talk about why this tool is so handy, and why I’m calling it a must have addition to your machine!
Purpose
The purpose of the magnetic cutting plate is to make die cutting easier by providing a magnetic surface to hold dies in place, rather than them jumping around.
Benefits
There are several benefits to using this accessory with your die cutting machine. The primary benefit is that it makes die cutting around stamped images quick and easy, because the magnet holds the dies in place.
Some of you have commented that you don’t like the popping and cracking noise your machine makes when you are cutting. You’ll be excited to know this plate eliminates those sounds!
There are also some big improvements with this magnetic cutting plate over our previous magnetic base plate. They include:
- This plate replaces plate 3 in your ‘sandwich.’ Before, you needed an additional large plate to do magnetic die cutting. This saves space, and makes traveling with your machine easier!
- The plate is fully magnetic. I’ll try saying this another way, and I’ll say that it is ‘equally magnetic’ everywhere. This means your dies won’t jump around from place to place anymore! This is especially beneficial with small dies…
…and nested ones.
- If you bump your paper or want to move it across the plate…
…the dies stay perfectly placed around your stamped images!

It is thin, lightweight, and flexible. In the photo below, I have the plate standing up on end, and you can see how thin it is.
How To Use
To use the plate, you’ll build your ‘sandwich’ to pass through the machine from the bottom up:
- Base Plate 1
- Die Cutting Plate 2
- Magnetic Cutting Plate 5, gray side up
- Paper
- Dies
- Clear Cutting Plate 3
Run the sandwich through the machine, and admire the results!
FAQs
Can this plate be used with a different die cutting and embossing machine? Yes, as long as the clear cutting plates are the standard thickness, because it will replace one of them.
Am I required to have this plate to use the Stampin Cut And Emboss Machine? No, the plates required to use the machine come included. This is an upgrade that makes the task of die cutting much simpler!
Care
When you receive your new magnetic cutting plate, you’ll want to care for it properly. First, make sure to spread cuts out across the surface and don’t do all your cutting in one area. To clean it, use a damp cloth and no cleaning agents. Do not submerge the plate in water. Also, make sure to store the plate flat.
