OSAT Blog Hop – Let It Snow

10 Nov

Welcome to this month’s One Stamp at a Time Blog Hop. Our theme this month is Let It Snow. I’m not sure that I’m ready for snow yet, but I’m always ready to come up with a craft project, snow-themed or not.

OSAT Blog Hop

Speaking of snow, I’ve been told that Farmer’s Almanac has predicted a really big snow storm for this month here in Ohio. I’m not sure whether to believe it or not. So far we’re still having temperatures in the 60’s! While I ponder the weather question, let’s get on to my project. Here are the snowy Christmas card and ornament that I created.

Let’s look at the ornament first. I made the large snowflake using the Frosted Medallions stamp set. I LOVE this big stamp. I have been using it for all kinds of neat projects lately. For details on how to stamp the image using multiple colors as shown, keep reading to the bottom.

Here are the card and envelope. I still haven’t decided what I think about the card. I love the big snowflake. The rest became a little glitzier than I might have preferred, but overall I still like it. I used the long swirl die from the Swirly Scribbles thinlits in the background because it looked snowy to me. After I stamped the snowflakes on the card base, I needed to tone them down some, so I placed vellum over the top.

A little over a week ago, I shared a fall project made with this Frosted Medallions stamp set, and I have two more projects I will be sharing soon that I made with it. I’ll give you a hint about one of the projects coming up…it says gobble gobble! That’s right, I turned this stamp into a turkey, and it’s one of my favorite projects I’ve made for quite a while. Make sure to check back so you don’t miss it, or even better sign up to receive my updates!

What do you think about the blue and purple color combo? I’ve used these colors for Christmas cards in the past, and I always love how they turn out. It’s a nice change of pace from traditional red and green.

To get the multicolored snowflake, I used the baby wipe ink pad technique. I laid a baby wipe on my table (if you have a nice stamping desk or table, you would probably want to use a paper plate underneath), then added drops of ink as shown below.

After adding one color, I repeated the process with a few different colors until I had covered enough area to ink my big stamp. My color combo included Night of Navy, Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, and Island Indigo.

Then I used the baby wipe as a pad to ink my stamp.

And here are the lovely results of stamping it!

I hope you enjoyed my project!

How did you cut out the medallion for the ornament? Is there a die cut for that?
