Hi friends and welcome back. I’m so glad to be back with you, sharing card making ideas (and life!) with you. Today I want to share a project I’ve had on my mind for over a year. Have you ever seen wobblers on handmade cards? They’re basically small springs you can put under card elements to make them bounce and move on your cards. They’re super cute, and today I want to share with you how to make wobblers for card making!
What Is A Wobbler?
First I’ll share what a wobbler is, for anyone who has never seen one. It’s basically a small, lightweight spring made of thin wire, which is placed under a particular element of your card project. In doing so, it allows the piece to bounce and wobble, making it a really fun surprise for the recipient of your card!
Can you see the wire pieces underneath the bear and beaver? Those are the wobblers. To see these cards in motion, you’ll definitely want to watch along with today’s video, linked at the bottom.
Supplies Needed To Make Wobblers
To get started, you’ll need the following:
- Two cardstock circles, approximately 1″ in diameter
- 6″ of springy wire – 30 gauge copper wire recommended
- Scotch tape
This is all you’ll need, and it’s so easy to create your wobblers. I’ll explain how in the next section.
How To Assemble A Wobbler
Once you have the materials listed above, it’s easy to begin making wobblers. Here’s how.
First, wind the wire around your finger or a pencil to create a spiral.
Next, tape one end of the spiral to one circle of cardstock. If the tape goes over the edge, just fold the excess to the back of the circle.
Repeat the previous step with the other end of wire and second circle of cardstock.
Your wobbler is complete! You can attach it to your card and add a punch or die cut on top!
Sample Wobbler Card Ideas
Here are the two cards I created with wobblers. For this first one, I placed a wobbler behind the bear. Isn’t he cute?!
For my second card, I placed one wobbler behind the beaver…
…and a second one on the inside behind this cat. What a fun surprise!
Are you wondering about the adorable animals on these cards? Let’s take a look at the products I used to create them.
Featured Bundle – Fluffiest Friends
The stamp and die bundle I used on these cards is called Fluffiest Friends. Isn’t it perfect for wobbler cards?! I wanted to do something really fun with this set, and using wobblers with them seemed like just the thing. I just love these little critters!
Since the Fluffiest Friends stamp set doesn’t come with greeting stamps, I searched my collection for some fitting cute and fun greetings. The set I used is called Sweetest Cherries and it comes with the large ‘Sweet’ stamp, along with others that can be paired with it to make sayings such as “Thank you for being so sweet,” “Life is sweet with you in it,” “Wishing you a sweet day” “Sweet friend,” and “Sweet birthday wishes.”
