Card Gift Box

29 Apr

One of the demonstrators on my team recently shared how to make a simple box out of cardstock that you can store your cards in. I mentioned this at my last stamp club, and there was overwhelming interest in making a card box at our next gathering. I had seen one on Pinterest that I fell in love with, but alas, when I followed the link there were no instructions. I got out my cardstock, trimmer and scoring board and played around with it until I figured out how to make one like the one I had seen. Read on to find out how.

I started with two pieces of Elegant Eggplant cardstock, one that was 6 1/4″ by 11″ and one that was 6 1/2″ x 7 3/4″. Here is a diagram showing measurements, placement of cuts and score lines.

Instructions to make Card Gift Box

Then I attached a ribbon on the outside of the box to tie it shut. I created the front of the box by doing the following on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock:

  • Sponge Encore gold ink over the Stripes Mask
  • Stamp leaf image from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set using Always Artichoke ink (this is somewhat messy- the stamp picked gold back up each time, so I cleaned the stamp before reinking to avoid getting gold into my Always Artichoke pad)
  • Stamp flowers from the Mixed Bunch stamp set onto white cardstock using Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant ink. Punch out using the blossom punch.
  • Stamp flower centers from the Mixed Bunch stamp set using Encore gold ink onto Elegant Eggplant cardstock  and punch out using 3/4″ circle punch.
  • Curl flower petals using bone folder.
  • Attach flowers together. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals under the flower centers.
  • Stamp butterfly images from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set with Versamark ink onto brushed gold cardstock and emboss with gold embossing powder. Punch out using the Elegant Butterfly and Bitty Butterfly punches. Fold wings upwards and attach using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here is the inside. You can fit up to five cards and envelopes into each side of the box, for a total of ten. I thought the diagonal pockets gave it a nice touch. Straight pockets would have been slightly easier, but I just know that whoever you give this to will open it and exclaim, “Oh I just love these diagonal pockets! They are so much more visually pleasing than straight ones would have been!”

If you have been following my posts and are wondering, yes, this does highlight some retiring products. Retiring products featured include: Mixed Bunch stamp set, Blossom punch, Encore gold ink and Sticky Strip adhesive.

This would make an awesome gift for Mother’s Day, a birthday, teacher gift, or pretty much any occasion.Try making one today!
