Stampin Up Watercolor Shapes For Simple One Layer Cards

12 Aug

Welcome! I’m really excited about today’s projects, because they are simple and beautiful. I started experimenting with the Stampin Up Watercolor Shapes stamp set and I couldn’t…put…it…down. I made up all these samples and wanted to keep creating. I could stamp with this set all day! Let’s take a look at these fun and simple projects.

Watercolor Shapes Stamp Set

In the photo below you can see the Stampin Up Watercolor Shapes stamp set. They’re just geometric shapes. Not really that exciting, right? I had a vision when I saw this set for using them as a background to create the focal point on top, and as you can see with the cards I created, it definitely works. I used them to create some fun background patterns and images as well.

Video Tutorial

Want to watch along as I share more about these cards, as well as how to create one of them? Watch here!

Tips

Here are a few tips for using this stamp set, especially as a background piece.

  • Use a very light color of ink to allow other images to show up on top.
  • In addition to using light ink, or instead of doing so, you can stamp off on scrap paper once or twice before stamping on your project to lighten up the ink color.
  • Experiment with it. You won’t make your best project right away, so get the creative juices flowing and see what happens!

Stampin Up Watercolor Shapes Card Samples

Let’s take a closer look at the cards I created.

Here you can see the cards where I used the shapes to create some type of pattern or image on the card. I really like the brick wall and the flowers. What do you think? Can you think of other patterns or pictures you could make using the basic shapes?

Next we’ll look at the cards where I used the shapes as a background element.

This first one features the Nuts About Squirrels stamp set, which is a really nice two-step set. I used Sahara Sand ink in the background and stamped off once or twice before stamping on the card. I made this in 1 or 2 minutes!

Here are two more neat fall projects. The one on the left is my very favorite from today’s projects, and I made it with the Beauty of Tomorrow stamp set. I used Pale Papaya, Cajun Craze, and Blackberry Bliss inks.

The one on the right is also a favorite, and it came together so fast. I used Soft Suede and Early Espresso inks.

These Sweet Ice Cream cards were some I made up for a recent card class. I stepped them up a little bit with a few layers, but you could create the same cards with a single layer. Yum!

Here’s another picture because I think these are so pretty.

Last but not least, I really wanted to try this technique with the new Frosted Gingerbread stamp set. These are the cutest stamps, and I thought it turned out really nice with the Sahara Sand circles stamped lightly in the background. Watch along with the video to see me making this card.
