Stampin Up Happy Hibiscus + 8 Techniques!

12 Dec

Am I allowed to guess that you probably have some flower stamps in your collection?! If you’re brand new to stamping, maybe you don’t have any yet, but most of us have several flower stamp options. I was playing around with a favorite new bundle called Stampin Up Happy Hibiscus, and wanted to get creative, so that’s what we are doing today with lots of fun technique ideas that you can use with flower stamps in your collection. Let’s get started!

Stampin Up Happy Hibiscus Bundle

Here you can see the beautiful bundle I used to create today’s cards. I love sets such as this one that include stamps, dies, and an embossing folder that all coordinate because they really allow for a ton of flexibility.

Technique Bonanza Video Tutorial

Watch along here to see how I’ve used eight different techniques on the cards I’m sharing today.

8 Techniques For Flower Stamps And Dies

You can use these techniques with your flower stamps and dies or any of the others in your collection. Let’s talk about them.

1. Shadow Stamping

This idea is simple. First stamp with white craft ink, let that dry and then stamp over the top (slightly offset) with various colors of ink. This is so easy but really pretty.

2. Spritz Stamping

After you ink your stamp, and before stamping on your paper, use a water spritzer to apply about four spritzes of water. Then stamp on your card stock. This creates a really fun watercolor effect without the mess.

3. Crumple and Tear

When you have stamped and cut your flowers, crumple them up and carefully pull apart the two layers of cardstock from each other. Watch along with the video for tips on how to do this.

4. Stamp Onto Designer Paper

This is an easy way to get a different effect from stamping onto plain cardstock.

5. Emboss Then Color With Watercolor Pencils & Blender Pen

I decided to throw in a few embossing examples as well. You can color over embossing with any type of coloring tool, but for my example I chose watercolor pencils. After I got it colored, I blended them with a blender pan, which is a really fun and mess-free way to do watercolor with pencils or inks.

6. Paste And A Paintbrush

Embossing paste is a really fun medium to use on your projects. This is the first time I’ve ever tried this particular technique. I put a little bit of paste into the corner of a Ziploc bag and cut off the corner of the Ziploc bag. I squeezed out a thin line over the top of my stamped flowers. Then I used a paintbrush to drag the paste inward, creating this really neat effect.

7. Blending Brushes

This is a classic way to add color over the top of your embossed cardstock. It’s not terribly unique but definitely a favorite for me, so I wanted to share it again.

8. Emboss By Hand With A Stylus

For this technique, you’ll stamp and die cut your flowers, and then flip them over to the backside and lay on a foam pad. Use a stylus from a scoring board or take your pick tool to press into the foam pad and give your paper texture. You’ll definitely want to watch along with the video for more details.
