Alcohol Marker Blending Techniques With Jar of Flowers

5 Oct

It’s been quite a while since I’ve shared a coloring project with our Blends alcohol markers, and that means it’s about time for another one! I shared these amazing markers with a new stamper a few weeks ago, and I finally let my daughter touch (and use) my markers as well. Both of them fell in love with the Blends and it inspired me to create a blending video. Even though I’m not a fan of coloring by nature, I do love to color with these markers because the end result is truly amazing. Let’s talk about some blending techniques to use with Blends alcohol markers!

To see exactly how I blended colors using Blends markers for these cards, watch along here.

Jar of Flowers Stamp Set

I decided to use the Jar of Flowers stamp set for today’s projects because it includes several gorgeous flower arrangements, which can be used for seasonal cards depending on the colors you choose for the flowers. I colored these cards to look like beautiful fall arrangements.

I have shared some neat projects with this stamp set in the past. Here is a Jar of Flowers shaker card.

Alcohol Marker Blending Techniques

Here’s how I like to blend colors. First, fill in an area with the lightest color you plan to use. Next add the darkest color in the spots that would have shadows. You can use the dark ‘cheat lines’ on the stamps as a guide for where the image will be darker. Optional: add a middle color to blend between the dark and light. Last, use the lightest color to go back over the entire area and blend the colors together.

Some people like to use a circular motion to blend dark to light. I used to do this, but I’ve started doing a feathering technique with straight lines from the dark area to the light area. I show this in today’s video.
