Beautiful Religious Christmas Card Idea with Bethlehem Edgelits

21 Oct

Hi all! Today I’m sharing a blast from the past – one of my favorite projects from days gone by. Many of you look for religious Christmas card ideas, and this is one of my favorites! It’s a scene of Bethlehem under a beautiful starry night sky, and I made it using Stampin’ Up’s Bethlehem Edgelits dies. My original post was here but you can read all about it below!

Watercolor Christmas Card using Stampin' Up! Night in Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits Dies - Holiday Catalog 2017

I made this card and framed art using our new Stampin’ Up! Night in Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem Edgelits dies. Aren’t they gorgeous?!

I made the watercolor background by inking an acrylic block with 3 colors of ink, spritzing it with water, placing it directly onto the watercolor paper, removing the block, and then sprinkling salt on the surface. As the paper dries, the salt pulls some of the color out, which leaves the splotchy background. I have a tutorial video below to show you exactly how to make it!

On my original card, I had used plain white cardstock for the die cuts. This time I just had to use Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper. It’s so much prettier in person than the pictures show.

I love the card so much that I wanted to make a piece of framed art to set out as a Christmas decoration. I might make a few more to use as gifts as well!

Check out my video showing how to make this beautiful card with the Stampin’ Up! Night in Bethlehem stamp set and Bethlehem edgelits dies!

*Note – two of the ink colors I used on this card are now retired, so instead of Marina Mist and Island Indigo, I would now use Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel! Links are below!

These projects are so beautiful! Why don’t people want to make religious cards anymore? After all Christ is the Reason for the Season! I’m not worried about offending anyone with my religious cards this year. I thought about doing both kinds of cards, Religious and Non-Religious? But, WHY? What’s the worst they do, throw it away? If they do, that’s on them!

I just watched your video, I was wondering what colors you would suggest since our color revamp? I was thinking Night of Navy, Balmy Blue and maybe a little Tranquil Tide? What do you think? It’s your design, I’d really like to know what you think? Thank YOU for sharing this projects with us! I’m looking forward to your answers. Here’s hoping I hear from you soon!

Hi Gloria! Great question. I was thinking Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, and Blueberry Bushel, but Tranquil Tide sounds really neat too! It would be fun to see what it would turn out like with different colors! If you try it, I would love to see what you come up with! Oh, and I just happened to think that Mint Macaron would be neat too…

    Anna,

I just bought the Bethlehem dies just a few days before they retire. I have so loved looking at your beautiful card on line, I needed to make this for our card rack at church and for my relatives, my friend in Germany…. Thank you for sharing this beautiful card. It looks fun to make, too!
