12 Days of Handmade Gift Ideas - Day 11 Stamped Candle and Card Set

It’s Day 11, of my 12 Days of Handmade Gift Ideas that is! I’ve been having so much fun these last 10 days that I haven’t even mentioned what’s coming next, after my 12 Days are over. As for today, I have a beautiful stamped candle and card set to share!

The Floral Frames stamp set has become one of my favorites in the last few weeks. I made this card set with it last week, and now this gorgeous candle and card set. This time I embossed the image with gold embossing powder and colored it with our Stampin’ Blends markers in the colors of Old Olive, Petal Pink, and Rich Razzleberry. I love how it turned out.

Here is a close up of the card. I am a total novice when it comes to using our Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, but I don’t think it shows on projects!

Let’s talk about this candle. Did you know you can get stamped images onto candles? Read on to see how.

First you need to stamp your image onto white tissue paper. In this case, I stamped it with Versamark, added gold embossing powder, and heated it with the heat tool to emboss.

Next I colored the image with the Blends markers.

Once your image is ready for the candle, trim around it with scissors. Lay it over a candle where you want it to be placed.

Next, use a heat tool to heat the candle until the wax starts to melt. When the wax melts, it sucks the tissue paper in to where you can’t see it. Below you can see that the right side has started to melt and absorb the tissue. During this step you have to be extremely careful not to overheat the candle. If it melts too much, you will get drips. Drips are not ideal. When I made this candle I got a few drips, but I remelted them so they were less obvious.

Continue heating until all of the tissue is absorbed into the wax. Then simply let it cool until the wax re-hardens.

You can really make some beautiful gifts using the stamping on candles technique. I made a gorgeous candle with a cardinal a few years ago for Christmas. Do you have other ideas, or have you made others? Send me some pics!
