ICS Blog Hop Technique Time

7 Sep

Hi Everyone! It’s so good to be back participating in the Inspire Create Share Blog Hop! It’s been a while since I’ve joined in, and I’ve missed it! Using special techniques is something I love, so I was excited to come up with something for this month’s theme – Technique Time. The technique I’m going to share is using an inked embossing folder.

ICS Blog Hop

Using the inked embossing folder technique, the holly embossing folder, and the Santa’s Sleigh stamp set and thinlits, here is what I created.

Elegant Gold and Black Reindeer and Sleigh Christmas Card using Inked Embossing Folder Technique and Stampin' Up! Santa's Sleigh Stamp Set and Thinlits

Let’s talk about the inked embossing folder technique first. I used Basic Black Archival Ink and pressed the pad directly onto the flat side of the Holly embossing folder. You want the ink to cover the flat area, but not get down into the recessed part of the holly design. I pressed the ink pad onto the embossing folder firmly over and over until it was solid black. This took a little while to get it covered well. Then I carefully placed the gold foil paper inside and ran it through the Big Shot as normal. I loved the elegant look that resulted!

A few notes to keep in mind if you try this technique:

  • It’s important to use our Archival ink (Basic Black or Basic Gray) when using foil sheets, because the other inks would not dry correctly.
  • When putting your paper inside the embossing folder, do so very carefully to avoid smearing ink onto the paper.
  • Make sure to clean off your embossing folder ASAP when you’re done. I used a baby wipe and was able to remove most of the ink.

I embossed the reindeer and Santa’s sleigh onto black cardstock using gold embossing powder, then cut them out using the Santa’s Sleigh thinlits. I needed something to make them stand out in front of the dark background, so I used wrinkled tissue paper and covered it with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

The greetings I used were also from the Santa’s Sleigh stamp set. I embossed the holly leaves and berries with our new Real Red and Emerald Envy glitter embossing powders and then punched them out with Holly Berry Builder Punch. I thought they provided the perfect amount of color on the card.

Here’s today’s fun fact of the day…we have 108 days until Christmas. It’s not time to panic yet, but it is time to start thinking about the cards you want to make for friends and family.

Thanks for visiting! Now it’s on to Jen’s blog to see what wonderful creation and special technique she has to share with us!
