Broken is beautiful. I imagine you have heard this phrase. Today I’m going to take this idea and we are going to apply it to our craft projects. Why would we want cards to look broken? I think the techniques I’m sharing today are fun and unique, and that they are especially appropriate if you’re sending thinking of you cards to people experiencing difficult times. I’m featuring the Stampin Up Kintsugi product suite and Inspiring Imperfections bundle on these cards, but you can try these techniques with any products. Let’s get started.

Broken Is Beautiful Video Tutorial
Watch along here to see several ways to create imperfections on purpose on your paper projects!
Stampin Up Kintsugi & Inspiring Imperfections
Here is the stamp and die bundle that I used on today’s projects. It comes as part of the Kintsugi product suite, which has a coordinating embossing folder, designer paper, and embellishments.

Ways To Make Your Cards Look Broken
Ha! This may sound silly. Hopefully it makes more sense when you see the cards I have created. Let’s take a look at these techniques.
Tear Them
For this card, I tore the edge, but you can always tear the edges of your layers as well.

Add Cracks
The Inspiring Imperfections stamp set includes two different stamps that can be used to create cracks, but I also showed in the video how to use a marker to do the same thing.

Crumpling
If you follow along with my tutorials, you’ve probably seen me do this before. I love to crumple paper – not because I love to crumple it, but because I love the effect after I flatten it back out. It creates amazing texture.

Sanding
Have you ever used sandpaper on your projects? It’s another fun way to add some really great texture and distressing.

Broken is beautiful! Make sure to watch the end of today’s video where I talk about embracing your imperfections and brokenness.
