Six Simple Card Making Techniques Perfect For Beginners

25 Jul

Welcome stampers! I’ve been sharing a lot of information to help new stampers learn the ropes of card making, and today we’re looking at some simple card making techniques. Techniques are so much fun to try, but some of them get a bit complicated. Let’s look at six simple techniques that anyone can do!

Featured Stamp Set

I used the Sketched Butterflies stamp set for today’s cards. It makes it simple to create gorgeous cards!

Project 1

Here is the first card I created in today’s video.

It features the following techniques:

Blending – Applying ink to a project using blending brushes. I placed a piece of cardstock over the top that had a square cut out of it, blended Crumb Cake ink onto the card, then removed the top piece of cardstock.

Rolling – Ink your stamp with a lighter color of ink, then ‘roll’ the outer edge of the stamp in a similar, but darker, color. I did this to ink the butterfly stamp.

Use Tape To ‘Mask’ Part Of A Stamp – Use Scotch tape to cover part of a stamp that you don’t want to show on your project. Ink the stamp, then remove the tape and stamp on your project. The stamp I used for the greeting on this card actually said, “Hope is a beautiful thing that flutters in the soul” but I masked off the second portion, so it didn’t stamp.

Project 2

This lovely card uses three different techniques as well.

The techniques include:

Block Stamping – Apply ink to an acrylic block. I used markers to do this in the colors of Petal Pink and Calypso Coral. Use a water spritzer to spritz 2-3 times onto the block, then press it onto your project. I repeated this a second time to create the background.

Use Markers To Ink Your Stamp – Use markers to ‘color’ ink onto a stamp in several colors. I first colored the butterfly stamp with Calypso Coral, then added Berry Burst highlights and finally Blackberry Bliss, before stamping onto my project. You always want to use the lightest color first, so your lighter markers don’t absorb darker colors.

Faux Stitching – Use a marker to create faux stitching around the edges or in another desired place.

Watch along with today’s video to see exactly how these techniques work!
