Using Fabric On Handmade Cards

18 Apr

Oh friends…I finally tried out a technique that has been on my mind for a while. It’s using fabric on handmade cards and it was so…much…fun. I started with a couple of ideas for how to use fabric, and I ended up having to turn off the ideas because there were too many! Let’s take a look at them.

…and Courage and Faith, which is a personal favorite of mine!

Take a look at this simple scoring technique which allows you to create stunning cards simply. Take a look at sample cards using Stampin Up Courage & Faith.

Before I share specific ideas for using fabric on cards, let me share a few tips for how to work with fabric.

Tips For Using Fabric On Cards

Here are some tips to help prevent frustration when creating with fabric:

  • Use your best pair of scissors for cutting fabric, especially if you’ll be using your cut edges on the finished card (and not die cutting the fabric).
  • A long arm paper trimmer is good for cutting straight edges as well.
  • You can tear fabric edges instead of cutting if you like.
  • Fraying the edges is a fun effect, and it covers up crooked edges.
  • Adhesive sheets were one way I found to adhere fabric, but you could use glue stick, Tear & Tape, regular tape, or even Wonder Under to iron it on!
  • When stamping on fabric, use a Stampin’ Pierce mat underneath and press as hard as possible (just make sure you don’t have ink around the edges of your stamp before doing this)!
  • When stamping on fabric, you may also want to choose darker colors of ink than usual to help them show up.
  • When die cutting, if the die isn’t cutting all the way through, place a piece of cardstock on your cutting plate under the fabric.

Fabric on cards, oh my! I have as much fabric as I do cardstock, inks, stamps and dies and embossing folders! I also have a fabric die cut machine with a few dies so I’m half way there.
