10 Card Making Mistakes And How To Fix Them!

12 Mar

Welcome stamping friends! Do you ever make a mistake on a card and then you just look at it wondering if all of your hard work has gone to waste? The answer is no…all is not lost! I believe there is always a way to fix those mistakes. Today I want to share 10 common card making mistakes along with simple ways to fix all of them.

FIX THAT CARD!! Ten card making mistakes and how to fix them quickly and easily!

Quick note! The colors featured on today’s cards are retiring very, VERY soon. If you want to add them to your collection, or if you have them in your collection and want to stock up on cardstock, ink refills, markers, etc., then now is the time to do it because these products will likely run out quickly in the next few weeks.

Below you can see the stamps I used on these cards – the new Drizzling Droplets background stamp and Charming Sentiments. The background stamp is fantastic for simple cards!

Keep in mind as we go through these card making mistakes, that you may want to mix and match the ‘problems’ with the ‘solutions.’ Sometimes your smudge may be in a different location or a different size than the one I’m showing, so sequins might not cover it up but ribbon or a die cut might.

Ok let’s get started!

Common Card Making Mistakes And How To Fix Them

1. Smudged Greeting

A messed up greeting is all too common. I’ve shared a lot of ways to prevent greeting mishaps with a handy stamping platform, and you can see some of those tips here. Once it is smudged, the quickest and easiest way to fix it is to stamp again onto another piece of paper and add the new one over top.

2. Incomplete Stamp

Stamp didn’t stamp completely? As long as it’s a small mistake, just grab a coordinating marker and fill in the rest!

3. Ink Line From Edge Of Your Block

If you had extra ink on the edge of your acrylic block and you rocked it a little bit when you stamped, the ink can end up on your card. Cover it up with a bow or ruffly ribbon!

4. Paper Is Crooked

Did you place one of the layers of your card on crooked? You can try lifting it off gently with the spatula end of the Take Your Pick tool or my go-to fix is to just cut it off of the card base, and put it on a new base.

5. Glue Ooze Out?

If you have glue spots on your card, cover them up with some sequins or gems!

6. What About Tape?

If you have a spot of tape showing, use an adhesive remover square! You can find these at the dollar store.

7. Small Spots Of Ink

White marker to the rescue! I’m using my white chalk marker to cover up stray ink spots, but white gel pens work well too.

8. Crooked Greeting

If you have a crooked greeting, cover it up as mentioned above in tip #1…or what about adding a punch or die cut on top? It could be another greeting like shown here, or any kind of punch or die cut will do, like a flower, bird, etc.

9. Line Around Your Stamp?

If you over-inked your stamp and pressed a bit too hard, you may end up with that annoying line around your stamp. Why not try stamping something over top to cover it up, like these balloons?

Last but not least…the all-annoying…fingerprint smudge!

10. The Smudged Fingerprint

Ugh…so frustrating! You got a fingerprint of ink on your card! Here’s a creative way to hide that mistake – use a small punch and punch it out along with a few other places as well. Now it’s removed and you have a creative design.

You go girl, I am enjoying your messages at the end of your SU message. Please keep sharing. I am shortly starting a new chapter in my life, with retirement from a 23 year paying job, and looking for His plan for what I am supposed to be doing next. I love the simple SU messages you share. I totally get the Midwestern goodbyes, just had an half hour one with my sister and brother in law this past Sunday. 🙂
